Did you feel fear-based emotions of regret, frustration, anger, resentment, disappointment, sadness, and self-pity?.The next step is to reflect on the answers to your questions and to dig still deeper to see what is going on behind them.Īsk yourself right now how you would describe the emotions you felt as you read the above questions and started to formulate responses: What dreams in life have you shelved or given up on?.Where is your life out of balance and what are the consequences of this for you and those around you?.Are you playing small and avoiding things in life for fear of being judged or out of a fear of failure?.What are the predominant emotions you experience on a day-to-day basis? Put these into two categories of fear-based or love-based.On a scale of 1-10, how happy and fulfilled would you say you are in your life? Perhaps split this up into different themes, such as your relationships, your career, your sense of purpose and spirituality and even the amount of fun and adventure you have in your life. Here are some questions to help you consider these points and, I hope, also bring this alive for you: Truly insightful questions cannot be answered with a binary ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ they demand difficult reflection and look to go beyond the surface, they ‘peel the onion’ to a deeper layer to reveal core issues rather than superficial symptoms. The first step to better awareness is to start by asking better questions, as the saying goes, ‘if you want a better answer, ask a better question’. That’s why we feel ‘simple and steady’ is the better way to go.Creating lasting change only begins to happen when you become aware of limiting / negative patterns which keep showing up in your life, the ways in which you attach meaning to them, and more importantly, how you feel about them. But we also understand the implications it can have on the entire organisation and all the partners on the airport. We know that technology plays a big part in it and we ourselves are always looking to innovate our technology and with that, help innovating our clients. There are a lot of possibilities thanks to innovation. And yes, this might sound simple too, but that doesn’t mean that it is wrong.

It is easier to adjust procedures and technology to smaller steps, than big ones. After that, just take it one step at a time. If everybody is willing and able to innovate, then half the work is done. Simply saying ‘we need to’ is not enough. The hardest part of transforming an organisation is not changing the technology, it is changing the culture within the organisation. Start with step one the people that are going to have to work in this new innovative environment.

Why do you want to innovate? Is it because you feel innovation can improve operations on the airport and with that handle more passengers and cargo in a more efficient and cost reductive way, or is it because you feel the need to innovate so you can say you are innovating? It sounds very simple, but we have seen different projects where the latter one seemed the main incentive. That is why we believe that innovation should start small and simple.

It is not about innovative technique per se, but about the mindset of everybody involved. That last one should not be a reason not to innovate, but as everyone knows: change is hard. They are often obligated to invest heavily in new technology, share information and change the ways they have been working dramatically. All the partners on the airfield are asked to go from one to a hundred instantly. Most of these innovation projects are simply too big. We think there is a good explanation for why they fail. That is not just within individual companies, it also goes for innovation at airports: an immense overhaul of the infrastructure using the latest techniques, a radical change of policy and procedures and the general believe that ‘if we all do it together, it will work.’ It is as often that these same projects will run into delays or eventually even fail completely, because they did not bring the change people hoped for. When you hear about innovation projects, it often is about big, ambitious projects that want to innovate everything all at once. There are numerous large innovation projects surrounding (regional) airports but for them to really succeed, you have to start small and continue steadily. Aviation and the airport industry are no exceptions. It is also about innovating industries, to make them more efficient. Innovations in health, science and technology are rapidly changing the world. It is fair to say that today innovation is a big factor in society.
